The Most Frightening Moment in All Eternity (based on II Peter 2:9)

Intro: Many scriptures talk of that moment when all men who have not received the Love of God and have been saved, will face God.

Heb. 9:27 There is appointed unto a man a time to die , then cometh the judgement.

Heb. 10:26-27 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Heb. 10:29-30 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Isa. 26:21 For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

The Apostal Paul’s understanding of the punishment awaiting the nonbeliever so moved his heart that he stated:

Rom. 9:1-3 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

II Cor 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;

It has been said that Jesus preached more about hell and the coming judgement on lost men than he did on Heaven.

Can you think of anything more frightening than to fall int the hands of the living God, after you have rejected the gift of his son.

About 10 years ago a survey was done among random Americans, 87% thought they would go to heaven, more than said they believed on God.

Remind me of a little boy

who went to his teacher and said, “I don't want to scare you, but my father said if my grades don't improve, somebody is going to get a spanking.” He was convinced that it wasn't going to be him.

Bro Jerry Goff use to sing, “Please search the book again; I thought my name was there!

I went to church on Sunday, tho' I never knelt in prayer; Please search the book again; it's too late now, I know, Please search the book again before you make me go!

Bertram H. Shadduck, 1894

“And, oh, what a weeping and wailing,

As the lost were told of their fate;

They cried for the rocks and the mountains,

They prayed, but their prayer was too late.”

It didn't have to happen,

Isa. 1:18 “ Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

I Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
